Built in 1873, the Colin C. Baker was a 3-masted schooner partially owned and captained by Browning K. Baker of West Dennis (Mass.). From its home port of Boston, it sailed the Mid and North Atlantic in pursuit of trade in coal and other mined commodities. It was abandoned at sea in 1917. From the description of Schooner Colin C. Sturgis, William, 1782-1863

William F. Sturgis, born in Barnstable (Mass.), 1782, married Elizabeth M. Davis in 1810. He was involved in the fur trade of the Pacific Northwest and China, and served in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts House and Senate. He donated the house and books that established Sturgis Library.
